Here you can get the free crochet pattern for an amigurumi or crochet jellyfish which is the perfect size for a keychain.
These cute little jellyfish are quick and easy to make, in fact I teach these as part of my beginners crochet course, so they are the perfect beginners pattern for someone learning to crochet.
I’ve written this pattern in both USA and UK crochet terms, so please check which one you are following

How do you crochet a jellyfish?
These crochet jellyfish are made using the amigurumi method, for the body/ head of the jellyfish.
This means that you work in USA single crochet (double crochet UK) in a continuous spiral.
It can be a little tricky if you aren’t used to it, so I recommend a stitch marker, and having a paper and pencil handy to write down the number of stitches/ rounds you are crocheting.

How big is a Amigurumi jellyfish?
These little guys measure about 7cm / 3 inches when made with DK Yarn and a 3.5mm hook.

How do you make a crochet jellyfish bigger or smaller?
There a couple of ways to make a crochet jellyfish bigger or smaller.
The easiest way is to keep the crochet pattern the same, but use a thicker yarn to make them bigger, and a thinner yarn to make them smaller with a smaller hook.
Worsted weight yarn and a 4.5mm hook
4ply yarn a 3mm hook
There is another way to make a crochet jellyfish bigger, and this is to increase the number of stitches you start with, and the number of rounds – but this is a bit more complicated than just increasing wool size!

How do you crochet tentacles?
The tentacles of my pattern use “curly crochet”.
>>>Learn how to make curly crochet here
You make a circle, then crochet the legs at even points around the circle. (If you think of it like a clock face, you’d make the legs at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock).
You’ll chain, then work 2 double crochet (USA) in the chains.

How long does it take to crochet a jellyfish keychain?
These small jellyfish are really quick to crochet. For an experienced crocheter, they will take about 30 minutes to make.
If you are a beginner, they will take slightly longer. As I said before I teach people to crochet these in a beginners learn to crochet course, and they finish their jellyfish in about 2 hours.

What do you need to crochet a jellyfish?
Yarn – I’ve used scrap DK with 3 or 3.5mm hook.
If using worsted weight yarn, go down a hook or 2 sizes to make sure you have tight stitches, so use a G/H hook (4.5mm or 5mm).
A small amount of toy stuffing
1 pair 3mm safety eyes
Tapestry needle
Keychain (like these from Etsy)
