Here you can find the free pattern in both UK and USA terms for an easy square crochet hat with pom poms on both corners.
Block stitch is a great way to add a little bit of interest to standard double crochet, and using an accent colour makes these little hats pop.
These hats may look a little complicated, but they are super easy when you know how, so carry on reading.
If you want to Pin it to save for later, you can here.

What crochet stitches do you need to know to crochet a square hat?

You need to know how to:

- Single Crochet

This hat is really simple when you know how.
You can even get the adult matching pattern here>>>

How do you crochet a square hat?
The square hat is made by crocheting what is effectively a rectangle, that is folded in half and a sewn across the top.
The pom poms are added to each corner.
The adult version of the hat is made the same way, but sewn with running stitch and the top gathered. – you could easily leave this square, and make like the kids hat.
Square crochet hats for kids
I might be biased, but I love a square crochet hat for a baby, toddler of child.
I’ve designed a lot my daughter, like:
>>>The Mini Bean Stitch hat which could easily be modified to be Square hat.
Yarn Choice for an easy square crochet hat with pom poms
I was lucky enough to design these hats originally for Crochet Now Magazine, and they sent me the most amazing yarn.

Juniper Moon Farm Findley DK, which is an absolutely stunning 50% wool 50% silk blend, and totally wonderful – this really is a premium yarn, made in the Virginia Hills by a lady who has a goat and sheep farm.
You can get the yarn here – you need 1 50g balls of the Pink (15), and 1 of the blue (21)
But I know not everyone can use this yarn so I’ve listed some more cost effective options below
Juniper Moon Farm Findley (£££) >>>
Stylecraft Naturals Bamboo and Cotton (££)>>>
