Who needs an excuse for a crochet sloth? Not me – that’s for sure! This free crochet sloth pattern can be made in any yarn weight – if fact, I’ve made him in 3 different weight yarns to see how he turned out! So you could have him tiny to fit in the palm of your hand, or huge as a statement toy!
A while ago I designed a crochet unicorn, and then a crochet unicorn backpack, and well, the blue one loves sloths, so I designed a sloth for him
(well another sloth) >>>Check out my Sloth in Simply Crochet Magazine here

This sloth is really easy to make – using Single crochet (SC) and 2SC together (2SCtog) or UK Double crochet – 2 Double crochet together. That’s it – they are the only stitches you need to know!
The sloths are made using the amigurumi technique of working in a continuous spiral.
How to make a Large Sloth
It’s not really hard to work out, but the thicker/bulkier the yarn is, the bigger the sloth will be.
Any amigurumi pattern can be upsized to be bigger, you just need to change your yarn and hook size BUT you need to ignore what the ball band around the yarn tells you!
You need to use a smaller hook, to get your stitches tighter to not show the stuffing.
Tiny Crochet sloth – this was was made with DMC Cotton yarn and a 2.75mm hook.
Medium Sloth – this was made with left over Ricorumi from my simply crochet commission and a 4mm hook
Giant Sloth – this was made with Cygnet Super Chunky Yarn and a 10mm hook.
I’ll be honest here, and say I started with the super chunky sloth, he was an attempt to see if I could make something big and impactful, in not much time, and he only took a couple of days to complete.
In hindsight, he was slightly over stuffed so you can see through the stitches in his arms, which is probably why I haven’t released the pattern until now.
“You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take?” is a quote by the great Wayne Gretzy (Ice hockey legend)
So I’ve decided to get this pattern released now, so you can learn from my over stuffing, but also learn how I made the tiny weeny sloth that I am super happy with! (I’ve taken a shot on goal!)
