This post was first published as part of the Geo-Boho Cal I ran in September 2019. But it shows how to crochet a solid granny square with added texture of a cross made from Front Post double crochet (USA), or the RtrF (UK).
See the raised cross in the middle – this crochet square teaches how to make the cross shape raised – again – using a different part of the stitch (A bit like the BLO circle last week)

Wow, week 4 already!

We are onto Amber. I can not fully get across to you in typing the colour of this yarn.
I am a bit of a mustard fanatic, and this ticks every single box multiple times!

Photos really do not do it justice.
Week 4, I’m assuming you have your yarn now, but if not……
Cygnet Yarns Boho Spirit Solids (100% premium Acrylic 100g/ 240m)
2 balls of each Yarn A (Indigo 6505) Yarn B (Misty 6707) Yarn C (Peacock 6404) Yarn D (Amber 6909) Yarn E (Azalea 6606) Yarn F (Quartz 6202)
6 balls Yarn G (Pure 6208)
We’ve already made the Indigo, Misty and Peacock squares.
Check out the links to them here>>>

So, back to a square this week, and adding some texture.
Learn how to crochet?
We are adding texture – using the stitches to help us, but we are back on squares.
See the nice raised cross shape in the middle?
This is made by doing FPTr – or front post treble crochet (or FPDC if USA)
With the Indigo square, you made all stitches in the usual “top 2 loops” of the stitch. Thats what makes it nice and flat.
Last week we experienced the back loop only, which gives a spiral – you’d get the same on a square too if we did it, a square spiral.
This week however, using crochet at its finest, we make the stitch around the long part of the stitch (see the video below!). Sounds weird I know – but it works, and it works brilliantly.

How do you RtrP or FPDC to get a cross shape?
We do 2 stitches on round 2 FPTr, and then for every round, continue the same 2 stitches as FPtr. All other stitches are like the Indigo Squares we did back on week one.
