There are so many ways we can all be a little bit more eco friendly – and one of the easiest I’ve found is to take a reusable bag shopping. When I say take a reusable bag shopping, what I actually mean is this is a great excuse to design and make some Crochet farmers market bags or “totes” – and here you can find the free pattern for it!
The benefits of a reusable bag for the planet are huge, but honestly – you will look super cool carrying your groceries home in a crochet shopping bag!
Think retro, think stylish, and think Eco friendly – this really is a win win of a project.
This is a really nice sized crochet farmers bag, that will hold a lot of shopping.

Crochet Market Bag
These really are a great beginners project too – I have a couple of designs already for some bags, and I use them all the time at the local shops, and get comments all the time about how great my crochet bags are – and did I make them?
They are really quick to make, as they use the chain and single crochet method.
This is brilliant as they don’t use much yarn, so they will fold up small, but the crochet bag will expand hugely to accommodate all your shopping.
So quick to make, not much yarn and you get to save the environment……. What are we waiting for?

How to crochet an easy market bag
I made this design a few years ago, and have taught it too. I call it the “Wing It Market Bag” as that is exactly what I did when I designed it.
I picked up my hook, and just started to crochet to see where it would go!
I know you will love this pattern, so I’ve written it in both USA and UK Terms- just scroll to the terms you use.

Yarn for a crochet market bag
While you can use any yarn for the project, I chose a cotton based yarn – it just seemed to flow with the idea of it being sustainable and reusable.
There are a few you can choose from:
>>>Drops Paris in over 50 colours
USA Friends – Check out this cotton here too >>
The best news – is that from 2 balls you will some some yarn left over to make
>>>Some reusable Eco Face Scrubbies too – get the free pattern
All are brilliant – or as I’ve said – stash yarn would be perfect too.
The bag starts with working from the top down – you make the handles first, so this is the time consuming bit, as soon as the handles are done – you’ll have crochet bag in about an hour.
They are worked using Foundation Double Crochet to start. This is a brilliant stitch, as I always seem to twist a chain when starting – and with this stitch – there is no chain!
