Think of a festival and I automatically think crochet! Whether that be a boho granny square top, or a crochet headband with pretty flowers, in fact I think of any crochet garment and usually a summer festival with camping, tents and music comes to mind.
Now I won’t go as far as crochet shorts (very hippy and 1970s) – but they were definitely in fashion a couple of years ago! But a crochet headband, and even a festival style cardigan or tank top, and yes, they could be a winner.
With Music festivals starting up again in the UK, we might not be having Glastonbury this year, but we’ve got The Isle of Wight Festival and others, so definitely an excuse to get the crochet hooks at the ready and go wild for crochet!
If you want an understated crochet headband/ flower garland, rather than full on granny kitsch – look no further. I have a super easy and quick make that will seer you fitting in with festival fashion with ease.
This could also be a perfect crochet wedding hair garland, just think of bride walking down the aisle, this could look stunning.
I’ve written the pattern for this headband in 2 sizes – a child and adult.
If you want to save this for later – please do so here.
Why a festival crochet headband
Well this crochet pattern I designed a few years ago (Look at how little my daughter is!) and I’m finally sharing with you is for a crochet festival headband or hair flower garland that I crocheted in the car on the way to a fairy festival.
Look at her little crochet fairy wings – these were not a spur of the moment thing by any means, but they definitely caught the attention of all the other fairies at the festival!
In the very British weather fashion, the whole fairy outfit was planned in advance, then it was absolutely freezing and raining and we all needed coats ruining the “effect”.
Easy crochet flower garland
This is super easy and quick to make, and is a lot simpler than it looks. Not only this, I have a couple of video tutorials to help you out here too if you are a visual learner rather than a reader of patterns.

Yarn choice for a festival crochet headband
Yarn choice – lets be honest here – this is a perfect stash buster project – as you only need tiny amounts of yarn to make this.
My advice though would be to stay away from the “usual” acrylics. The reason being hopefully your festival will be in the summer, and the weather will be warm, dare I say even hot! Acrylic yarn and hot weather do not mix very well!
I’d choose a cotton based yarn – great for the warmer weather, and it also won’t stretch when tying round your head either!
USA Friends – These cottons are great with over 30 colours to choose from including 4 different greens.
UK Friends – these cottons in over 100 colours including 12 different greens are great.
What do you need to know to crochet a festival headband?
Not much is the answer – this is a super easy beginners pattern. Yes – it really is.
This headband only uses US Double crochet (UK Trebles). Yep – thats it, this really is an easy, simple crochet pattern for a festival headband.
We are talking a perfect beginners project here. If you can crochet a granny square – you’ll be able to crochet this!
Yes really! This garland only uses chain stitch, then double crochets.
The flowers are made using chains, then double crochet too – with a few slip stitches to fix them to the circle.
It really is simple, the main headband is made by starting with a standard chain stitch, and then working back along the chain.
The tip to note here is that to stop the main headband part of the crochet curling – you need to start your initial chain with a slightly larger crochet hook size.
