Here you can find the pattern for a stripy crochet beach bag, that is the perfect size for the summer to take on holiday to a beach, pool or lake!
This bag is surprisingly easy to crochet, using advanced beginners techniques, making this a great travel crochet project!
This is a medium sized beach bag that will comfortably hold a towel, a book, a water bottle and sunscreen.
I’ve written this pattern in both USA and UK crochet terms too!
How do you make a crochet beach bag?
This crochet beach bag pattern uses some beginners techniques, and some slightly more advanced crochet techniques.
Luckily I have the video tutorials to show you how to make the different stitches.
This bag is made in the round, slip stitching to join for the bottom piece before using V-Stitch.
You will need to know how to:
- Make a magic ring
- Single crochet
- Double crochet
- V-stitch
- Fasten off, weave in ends
For some other patterns that use V-Stitch:
How big is the beach bag?
This is a medium sized beach bag. The bag measures 10.5 inches (25cm) diameter x 10.5 inches (25cm) Bag Handle measures 23 inches (38cm)
How do you crochet a large beach bag
To make this a bigger bag, the easiest way would be to use a thicker yarn, or 2 strands of yarn held together and a larger hook – a 9mm should do.
Why this beach bag?
This crochet bag is not too holey, so you shouldn’t loose anything from the bag, like pens etc!
It has a solid bottom, and minimal holes making it not a string design.

What yarn for a crochet beach bag?
I’ve used a cotton worsted weight yarn for this crochet beach bag.
Cotton yarn is perfect for a crocheted beach bag for a few reasons:
- Cotton won’t stretch
- Cotton is very hard wearing
- Cotton is great for crocheting with in hot weather too.
I’ve used Lily Sugar and Cream for this bag which is widely available in the USA and the UK, even though its made in Canada!
This cotton yarn is a medium 4 weight yarn, meaning its worsted/ Aran weight and for my crochet bag pattern I’ve used a 6mm hook.
Lily Sugar and Cream is 100% 4-ply worsted cotton, which comes in 70.,9g (2.5oz) balls, with 120 yards/ 109 metres of yarn per ball.
This yarn comes in lots of different colours, and is very affordable at only £3 ($3.75) a ball.
38 solid colours and 25 stripy colours loads of choice
>>>Shop the Lily Sugar and Cream Yarn here
I’ve used 1 ball of each:
You can use other yarns too, like
Dishie from Wecrochet for a cheaper option
Or Cotlin from Wecrochet for a more expensive option

Crochet Beach Bag – The Seaglass bag
This pattern was first published on Itchin for Some Stitchin as part of RaeLynn’s guest designer programme in June 2021.
Pattern Notes:
- The bottom of the bag is made using the amigurumi style, working in a continuous spiral without closing the off each round with a slip stitch, until the DC rows.
- You may find it helpful to mark the first stitch of the round with a stitch marker, moving the marker up with each round worked.
- V-stitch rounds – each round is finished with a slip stitch, and fastened off before changing colour.
- V-stitch rounds are worked into the Ch1 space between the V-st of the previous round.
Size:
Finished bag measures 10.5 inches (25cm) diameter x 10.5 inches (25cm) high.
Bag Handle measures 23 inches (38cm)
Gauge (Tension)
4 pairs V-stitch x 6 V-stitch rows = 4×4 inches (10x10cm)
