On a roll now, so promptly onto hat number 3.
The inspiration came from a hat Repeat Crafter Me blogged about years and years ago, and I was asked to make some, but the difference between a baby hat, and a hat for a bottle is HUGE.
Maths at the ready, and some white (And then black – who on earth chooses to crochet in black yarn?) and grey wool, and my favourite stitch at the moment and……….
Using a 3.5-4mmm (ish) hook and DK yarn in white and grey (or another contrast)
Abbreviations – USA terms
MR – magic ring or magic loop
SC – Single crochet
Bobble stitch: *YO, through the stitch, YO, pull back through, YO, pull through 2 loops* repeat 3 more times, YO, pull through all the loops on the hook, chain 1 to secure the loops. Only work in the securing chain on the next round..
3 DC bobble stitch, Ch3, *YO, through the stitch, YO, pull back through, YO, pull through 2 loops* repeat twice more times, YO, pull through all the loops on the hook, chain 1. (The ch3 counts as the first part of the bobble)
SS – Slip Stitch
You are working in rounds. SS, and chaining (the appropriate number of stitches as noted at the beginning. These chains do not count.
EDIT: I was asked to make a video showing how to do this one – you can watch it below.
Round 1: MR, 12 sc into the ring, SS to join, [12 SC]
Round 2: Ch3, 3dc bobble in the same stitch, SC, *bobble, SC,* repeat around. SS to join. [6 bobble, 6SC]
Round 3: Ch1, 2SC in each stitch around (bear in mind the bobble stitch creates 2 loops, only make stitches into one of these – I prefer to use the chain 1 to line things up. [24SC]
Round 4: Ch1, SC, * bobble, SC* *-* repeat around. Ss to join. [12sc, 12 bobble]
Round 5: Ch1, 1sc in each stitch around. SS to join [24sc]
Round 6: Ch 1, SC, * bobble, SC * *-* repeat around. SS to join. [12 sc, 12 bobble]
Round 7: Ch2, 1 HDC in each
Round 8: Ch2, * 2HDC tog, 1 HDC in the next 2 sts* repeat around.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Outer ear, in white – make 2
CH8, 1HDC in 2nd chain from the hook, and then one in each chain back, making 2 in the last chain. Working back along the back half of the chain, make 1 HDC in each, including the last chain. SS to join.
Inner ear – grey – make 2
Ch6, 1SC in 1st chain from the hook, and then one in each chain back, making 2 sc in the last chain. Working back along the other half of the chain, make 1 sc in each, including the last chain. SS to join.
Use the ends to sew to the inner ear to the outer ear using your ends to save more sewing!
Pinch the ears at one end, and sew through the middle with the needle (Like above)
Sew to the hat, positioned slightly to the back of the head.
There you go…. Lamby the little lamb hat.
