So you fancy making a Harry Potter crochet blanket – maybe inspired C2C? Here I tell you about what I used to make mine, where I found the charts, what yarn I used, and how large it ended up!
I used the Corner to Corner Technique – or C2C. It’s my go too favourite for a blanket – as when you get in a rhythm it just “kind of works”. Even better, as you are getting larger on the diagonals – it’s not like a normal granny square for example – as with this each outer row takes longer. C2C isn’t like this – the longest row is the beginning of the square, then each row gets shorter and shorter……… which equals quicker and quicker.

Harry Potter Crochet Blanket
This is my finished blanket. It was a been a mission. It took me 6 months to finish, and it’s huge!
I made my son a blanket in the beginning of 2016, a rainbow C2C, which I was promptly told “It’s too small”, so lets start another blanket I stupidly thought.
First was the colour choice – Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, what colours to choose……
Yep, I was pretty happy with these…… and then proceeded to make my first 2 squares using the deep claret red on top – so it was time to think again!
Yarn
For this I chose an inexpensive Double Knit (Light Worsted Weight Yarn). Stylecraft Special DK.
This is a 100% acrylic yarn, that is very hardwearing, and can be put in the washing machine (so plus points there!)
You could also go for Deramores own brand – as another alternative. Again 100% acrylic and machine washable.
Colours – I had a few plays here, I thought I was going to go very bright, then started the 9 ? square – and ended up with a Claret Red Instead!
I tried to use the same main colours throughout – one for the cost of the yarn, but also to keep the blanket consistent.
Black – 2 balls
Claret (Gryffindor) – 3 balls
Lemon (Hufflepuff) – 3 balls
Green (Slytherin) – 3 balls
Denim (or Aster) (Ravenclaw) – 3 balls
Gold
Walnut
Silver
Grey
Copper
White
Toy
Blanket Size
I used a 4 mm hook, USA Double crochets as the stitches, and the squares turned out 40 x 40cm (16×16 inches) for the individual squares.
Now doing the math – 4 squares across x 4 squares up = 160 cm x 160 cm. This blanket is pretty big!
If this will be too large for you – you could always try HDC as the stitch to make it smaller.

I went for a simple one – just the house colours. The reason being I really couldn’t face sewing in all those ends (I am a crocheter after all!)
Tips and Hints
Pegs are invaluable in C2C. You can make small bobbins, and the clip to you work – meaning when you turn your work you don’t need to untangle ALL the bobbins you’ve used before carrying on.
