Here you can find the free pattern for a crochet dice or cube which is super easy to crochet, but does have a lot of joining!
This pattern will show you how to construct the dice, which sides to add the dots too, and how to have this as just a crochet cube too.
I’ve written the pattern in both UK and USA terms too.

How do you crochet a cube?
The cube/ dice is made up of 6 sides. The way you join the 6 sides together will make the dice a dice.
You need to pay attention to what side is where, and luckily for you I have a whole schematic below to show you how.
What crochet stitch for a crochet cube?
I’ve used Half Double Crochet (USA)/ Half Treble crochet (UK) to make the squares. This gives a nice closed texture, and is quicker that Single Crochet!
I’ve also made the squares by working in rows and turning at the end of each row, to make sure there are no “Holes” in the crochet fabric.

How to crochet a dice
I’ve made a couple of crochet dice over the years, and have learnt that the final construction is what can make the dice a cube rather than a ball!
A crochet dice is made up from 6 sides. These are crochet squares, and can be any colour you choose.
What Yarn for a crochet Cube/ Dice
This pattern was designed to measure 6 x 6 inches using Worsted Weight Yarn.
There are loads of brands on the market, I love Brava by Wecrochet and have loads of patterns with this yarn.

What stitches do you need to know to crochet a dice?
I rate this pattern as a advanced Beginners pattern, just because of the amount of sewing/ joining there is.
Crochet wise, it’s pretty straight forwards, with working in rows and turning to make the squares.
The for the dots, a magic ring, and an increase in round 2.
My pattern uses Half Double Crochet worked in rows and turning at the end of each row.
You will need to know how to:
- Half Double Crochet (HDC)
- Slip Stitch
- Make a Magic Ring
- Fasten off, weave in ends

How do you join the cube?
For the crochet dice, I have joined the sides using Slip Stitches, as I much prefer to crochet things together than sew.
Place the wrong sides together and then Slip stitch across. The seam will be visible, but this what will keep the cube a cube shape.
If you join the edges together and then turn inside out and stuff the cube turns more into a circle shape without good edges.
See the two below – the dice on the left has crips edges, the cube on the right has turned more circle shaped.

How big is the crochet dice
This dice works up to be 15cm x 15cm on each side – or 6 inches x 6 inches, using worsted weight yarn, and a 5mm hook.
How can you make the cube smaller?
The easiest way to make the cube smaller would be to use a DK weight yarn and a 4mm hook. You could follow the pattern exactly, but using a thinner yarn will make the dice smaller.
Another option would be to reduce your hook size, but this may give you problems when crocheting the dots.
