Here you can find the FREE crochet unicorn pattern I designed for my daughter.
Who doesn’t love a unicorn?
Well I don’t know anyone from adults to children who doesn’t love a unicorn, so let’s combine crochet and unicorns to make a great Amigurumi make.
My new pattern today is called Violet the Crochet Unicorn, after my daughters middle name and her mane colour, and like all my crochet patterns, she’s surprisingly easy to crochet.

Why a Crochet Unicorn?
So why did I make her? The pink one loves unicorns, and I mean seriously loves unicorns. I should also add the original post was written before every item in her wardrobe was only allowed if it featured a unicorn (we are now on leopard print….. times change)!
I wanted to make her one that was special to her, so time for some amigurumi.
This crochet pattern was originally published in 2017, but only in my pattern shops. I didn’t release her for free on the blog (just look how little my daughter is in the photos!)
So now I give you my new soft crochet toy design for FREE here on the blog ……. Violet the Unicorn.

What do you need to know to crochet a unicorn?
My pattern is an advanced beginner make. It’s really easy, and simple, but there are a few skills you need:
- How to make a magic ring
- Single crochet
- 2 Single crochet together
- Double crochet
- Chain
How do you get the Unicorn Hair Curly?
This is a great question, you just need to make more stitches per chain than the number of chains.
Luckily for you, I have a whole post and video on How to make Curly Crochet which goes into a lot of detail.
How big is the Crochet Unicorn?
Violet is made from chunky yarn and a 5mm hook.
You need to go down a hook size to ensure your stitches are super tight.
She is adorable, and measures a huge 50cm/ 20 inches from hooves to horn!

Yarn Choice for an Amigurumi Unicorn
I mentioned above that the crochet unicorn is made with chunky yarn, or bulky yarn if you are USA based.
I chose a standard, easy to buy yarn, as I wanted this make to be cost friendly for everyone.
Stylecraft Chunky yarn, 2 balls of cream and 1 in silver.
>>>Shop Stylecraft chunky yarn
As with most of my patterns, I try to not use a tiny bit of an additional ball of yarn so this pattern will leave you a tiny bit spare for your stash, but not loads!
You don’t need to buy a whole ball of silver too, as this is only used for the hooves, and the horn.
The mane is made from Double Knitting yarn from my stash, Stylecraft too!
